I'm currently listening to Elizabeth Schwarzkopf "portrays Romantic Heroines" LP with Christa Ludwig as her mezzo foil as she sings from Tannhauser and Lohengrin. It's typical Schwarzkopf I guess, with emphasis on text and beauty of tone, and of course her sweet vibrato is all over it.

By no means my favourite, but I like the lighter lyrical style, and almost chamber music feel.

Delicious recording. Ludwig was a great Ortrud.
